Major terror bids foiled in Punjab

Jalandhar: Punjab police arrested a British citizen- Jaswant Singh Azad- on Monday on charges of hatching conspiracy in connivance with banned terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa to assassinate prominent religious leaders like Dera Sacha Sauda chief Mukhi Ram Rahim Singh, Baba Ashutosh of Noor Mahal, Baba Bhaniara Wala including many others. A 9mm pistol including 15 cartridges have also been recovered from him.

Later the accused was produced in a court after which he was sent on remand till October 8.

Jalandhar ADCP (special Branch), Daljinder Singh Dhilon, said that 60-year old terrorist settled in Britain in 1965 and came in touch with various pro-Khalistan terrorist organisations during Operation Blue Star and visited Pakistan in 1989 on a tourist visa and even got a chance to meet Daljeet Singh Bittu of Khalistan Commando Force, Wadhava Singh Babbar of Babbar Khalsa International, Ranjit Singh Neeta (Khalistan Zindabad Force) including Parpinder Singh of Scotland there. He is also said to have even established a close relationship with the heads of these banned terror outfits.
