Ferozpur, (JPN/Bureau): In order to increase reservation in government jobs, Valmiki Mazhbi Sikh Reservatuion Bachao Morcha of Punjab on Saturday started agitation affecting rail services.

Trains were stopped in Moga, Mansa, Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Faridkot, Ferozepur and Ludhiana districts. Sensing the severity of situation, Firozpur Railway authorities cancelled about 33 trains and half a dozen long-distance passenger trains have been diverted from their routes.

Firozpur Railway Division Manager (DRM) Biswesh Choubey said, “As the protesters went on rampage, the train services on Ferozepur - Fajilka, Ferozpur - Ludhiana, Ferozepur- Bathinda railway section, have been canceled.”

According to sources, the protestors blocked rail tracks near Giani Zail Singh station in wee hours, which delayed Janata Express, running from Ferozepur via Delhi to Mumbai.

DRM Choubey said, “Taking the safety of trains and passengers into consideration, the government will be taking the assistance of GRP and RPF jawans of Punjab Police.
