Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Tuesday said it will soon start a recruitment drive to fill up 3,669 and 910 vacant posts in health and jail departments respectively.

A decision to this effect was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here, an official spokesman said.

Of the 3,669 vacancies in the health department, 3,208 posts including that of medical officers and paramedical staff will be filled through direct recruitment, while the remaining
404 posts of safai sewaks, cook-cum-helpers and security personnel would be outsourced.

The 910 vacancies in the Jail department, which included posts of assistant superintendent, matron and legal, clerical, technical, medical and paramedical staff will be filled through promotion quota, he said.

In another decision, the Cabinet also approved amended draft of Punjab Private Universities Policy-2010, a move that will pave way for private groups to establish self-financed
