Chandigarh: The Punjab government would set up a machine tools cluster at Batala at a cost of Rs 83 crore with an aim to develop the small and medium scale industry in border areas.
    
Keeping in view the potential of small scale industry at Batala, the state government has already moved a proposal in this regard, an official release said here on Sunday.
    
It would be a boon for the industry at Batala besides creating employment opportunities for a large number of youths, the release added. The state government has taken several steps to attract investments to the industrial sector, it said.
    
Special Purpose Vehicles have been installed for the maintenance of Industrial Focal Points across the state, besides a Handloom Tools Cluster has also been set up at Jalandhar at a cost of Rs 79 crore, it added.
