Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal sought help from Atomic Energy Commission to get rid of exessive presence of uranium in drinking water in the state.

Badal sought intervention of AEC Chairman and Secretary to the Atomic Energy Department Ratna Kumar Sinha in the matter to deal with the issue.

The Chief Minister said that over 1000 water samples were taken from 8500 tube wells. In which excessive Uranium and heavy metals were found in the drinking water.

The Chief Minister sought suggestions over setting up of water testing laboratory so that water can be purified.

The presence of excessive uranium in the water is leading to the cancer in the Malwa region in the state informed Sinha.
