Talking to reporters after meeting Kausalya, the 19-year-old widow of Shankar (22), who was killed Sunday last, party president K Krishnasamy said they have been demanding a special legislation for the past four years, considering "increasing incidents" of honour killing.
He said Rs 5 lakh compensation given to the bereaved family was "too meagre" and demanded the Centre and the state governments give Rs 1 crore to Kausalya, who is undergoing treatment at a government hospital, and Shankar's parents besides offering government jobs to his brothers. Though  Kausalya is recovering from her injuries, which required 36 stitches, she is upset as she was alone in the ward and there was no one to talk to, he said.
