Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, PWD has also decided to launch a special drive for the removal of posters, hoardings from roads, painting of flyovers, painting of kerb stone on 20 major PWD roads.

"PWD will put 200 banners with 16,000 balloons on 20 major roads crossing on Ring Road and Outer Ring Road. Eight entry points in Delhi shall also be decorated with balloons and flags," PWD secretary Arun Boroka said.

He said the department employees will celebrate the day at their local PWD offices along with Resident Welfare Associations.
"Special drive will be launched for removal of posters/ hoardings from roads, pruning of trees, painting of flyovers and improvement of horticulture under flyovers, removal of malba, cleaning of signages, road markings, painting of kerb stone on all PWD roads around 1,250 kms," he added.

Boroka said that emphasis would be made on the participation of young children and cultural programmes on patriotic themes will be organised.

He further added that PWD has begun one lakh tree plantation drive on various PWD roads, buildings, colonies and 20,000 saplings have already been planted in different areas.

This drive, on an auspicious day, would help to make Delhi a clean and green city, he also added.
