Lucknow: Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday turned into an RTI activist when he filed two applications seeking information regarding Janani Suraksha Yojna under the umbrella of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

Accompanied by UP state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna, Rahul made a surprise visit to the regional office of the NRHM in the state capital while returning from his constituency. He waited for the deputy director general of NRHM, Dr Anil Kumar Mishra in his office who was busy in a meeting then.

A harried Mishra had to encounter some tough questions from the Amethi MP about the funds being utilised under Janani Suraksha Yojna and NRHM over the last five years.  Later Rita Bahuguna, on his behalf, filed two RTI applications in that regard.

The Congress scion also visited the family of the murdered Lucknow Chief Medical Officer BP Singh. He also assured the CMO's family of pursuing their demand for a CBI inquiry into the murder.
