Ferozepur: Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday declared Punjab PCC Chief Captain Amarinder Singh as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the party in the state.

"Amarinder will become the Chief Minister if the Congress is voted to power," the Congress leader said while addressing an election rally here.

Amarinder Singh is a former Chief Minister and has been the frontrunner for the post since he was made the PCC President.

Taking a dig at the rival parties including BJP over corruption, Gandhi said that why these parties fail to see corruption prospering in their ruled states.

“They must curb corruption in their states and then point finger at others. The UPA government is totally against graft. This is the reason why the corrupt leaders and ministers are behind the bars,” he asserted.

Applauding the UPA government for giving schemes like MNREGA, Gandhi said, “UPA is the first and only government who have introduced 100 days guaranteed employment scheme for rural and weaker section of the society. “This has indeed curbed the unemployment issue in the country”, he claimed.

Maintaining the party’s stand over Lokpal Bill, Gandhi said, “The UPA government will abide by its promise to bring a strong Lokpal Bill and put a check on corruption.”
