KMC’s decision to allow Modi for holding an election rally a day before Rahul’s scheduled rally but denying permission to the Congress vice-president has raised quite a few eyebrows.

The Congress party said it would complain to the Election Commission against the KMC, which is run by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC.

The Congress vice-president is slated to visit the city on May 8 for the meeting at the Park Circus Maidan.

“We had written to the KMC seeking permission for the meeting at the Park Circus Maidan. But they denied us permission. This is cheap politics," said Congress leader Subhankar Sarkar.

Sarkar said that in March also, the KMC had turned down its request for allotting the ground for Gandhi's rally.

"This is undemocratic. We will move the Election Commission," he said.

The Congress party also accused TMC of having a secret pact with the BJP despite Mamata slamming Modi openly in her election rallies.

Congress state leader Pardeep Bhattacharya said TMC was running scared of Rahul Gandhi and therefore they have denied permission to his public meeting.

Meanwhile, sources in TMC claim that it is purely an administrative decision with the party having no say in it.

Meanwhile, city mayor Sovan Chatterjee said the Maidan was undergoing beautification.

“So we have not given permission to any party to hold meetings there,” he said.

Now, the grand old party has said that Rahul’s rally would be held near the Shahid Minar ground, which is under the Army's jurisdiction.

Rahul held his public meeting in the same ground in March this year after being snubbed by TMC-run KMC to conduct rally at the Park Circus Maidan.
