Gandhi scion Rahul figures in BPL list

New Delhi: You would be surprised to know that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi and Dipender Hooda, son of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda are living below poverty line. Courtesy: The records of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Gurgaon.

The failure of the corruption ravaged PDS can be gauged from the fact that both Congress scion Rahul Gandhi and Dipender Hooda have ration cards in their names to avail the benefits of the PDS system. The revelation is enough to expose the large scale corruption scavenging the social welfare schemes run by the government.

With the involvement of some PDS officials and workers of the food and distribution department, the ration shopkeepers prepare fake ration cards to claim the foodgrain, kerosene, sugar and other items meant for the BPL families.

According to the documents available with Dainik Jagran, the registration number of the ration card issued on Rahul Gandhi’s name is 821481. The card bears his picture along with the name of his father, former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. His address is Flat No. 14, Arjun Nagar which falls in distribution ward number 14 in Gurgaon.

Similarly, Dipender Hooda has also not been spared and has ration card with registration number 039095, Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda as father’s name and address house no. 1530/30 Rajendra Park, Gurgaon.

The series of PDS frauds not just ends here as many ratio cards have been issued in the names of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Rajan and many others.

The people often accuse the food and distribution department of not issuing them ration cards and non-availability of kerosene and others. It seems that the officials turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the complaints and assure a probe into the issue if under pressure.

It is said, the departmental officials and workers accept a bribe of Rs 300- Rs 500 for issuing bogus ration cards. While the ration bought through these fake ration cards at the subsidised rates is sold in the open markets to churn profits, the cards can also threaten the security system.

However, District Deputy Commissioner PC Meena laughs it off as a joke and claims that such omissions are not possible. However, he has assured that he will investigate the issue to find out the cards have been actually issued and entered into the records.
