Panchsheel Nagar: Lambasting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for misusing public funds, Congress star campaigner and General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on the last day of campaigning for the sixth phase of polls said that BSP and SP are neck deep in corruption and has tricked media and public into believing lies.

Further criticising Maya and Mulayam, he said, “Uttar Pradesh slipped backward in the past 22 years because of anti- development governments in the state. Congress ruled states like Delhi and Haryana are growing faster unlike others. Farmers are in a pathetic condition and are being forced to sell their produce below the Minimum Support Price (MSP).”

“It is said that farmers are being forced to sell their land at low price and if they protest for adequate value of their land, they are killed. Bhatta and Parsaul is an example,” he said.

“The Congress has been making policies for the welfare of the famers but benefits of those schemes are not reaching to the farmers,” he pointed out.

“The Congress waived off loans of poor farmers worth Rs 60,000,” Rahul counted.

He added, “We (Congress) supported Muslim quota for their rights.”

Meanwhile, taking a pot shot on Mayawati’s letters to the Centre, he said, “Writing letters to the Centre on development issues doesn’t matter, fulfilling commitments and work matters.”

“Power is being supplied only for four hours. Law and order in the state is deteriorating day by day,” the Gandhian scion said.

The campaigning for sixth phase elections for 68 assembly seats in 13 districts ended on Sunday at 5 o’clock. Polling for the sixth phase polls is slated for Tuesday.

Rahul was addressing an election rally in Hapur in support of his party candidate Gajraj Singh.
