New Delhi:  Amidst the busy campaign schedule for Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has decided to visit Punjab in the last phase of election campaign. Rahul has promised to campaign in the state at the request of Punjab Pradesh Congress.

Arch-rivals Congress and BJP have started fielding their star campaigners in the state from Thursday. In a weeks’ time all powerful leaders of the Congress along with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will begin their campaign in Punjab.

According to the campaigning schedule, Sonia Gandhi will visit Moga on January 19 and PM Manmohan Singh will campaign in Amritsar on January 21.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi is all set to campaign for his party in Punjab at the request of Shiromani Akali Dal.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar too will visit Punjab on the invitation of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Strangely, despite being a part of the NDA, Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar will not participate in joint rallies of Akali Dal-BJP.
