The day-long visit would begin with a meeting with Congress workers at the Zurrantee tea garden football ground at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal in the morning.

He will also hold a rally at the Karaimura high school ground in Tripura followed by a meeting with party workers of West Bengal at the Shahid Minar at Kolkata.

After Trinamool Congress’ (TMC) exit from the UPA, the Congress is making all out efforts to retain all six seats it won in West Bengal in 2009 when the Congress fought Lok Sabha polls in alliance with the TMC.

The Congress aims at winning majority of seats out of 25 Parliamentary constituencies spreading over eight North Eastern states. In 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress won 13 seats out of 25 in the North Eastern states.
