The Congress vice-president's visit to Gujarat is the first after Modi was anointed BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi will be in Ahmedabad on October 3 and in Rajkot the next day, party general secretary Gurudas Kamat said. Kamat, who is in-charge of party affairs in Gujarat, said that on October 3 Gandhi will address a meeting of National Council of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) - the students' wing of Congress.

He said that in his diverse interaction, Gandhi will be meeting current and former MPs and MLAs from various parts of the state as also elected representatives above Panchayat level.

Gandhi's visit is taking place at a time when the party has launched aggressive agitation against the Modi government on the issue of corruption.
