Aligarh: The bewilderment on the venue of holding mahapanchayat has at last come to an end. Instead of Bhatta Parsaul, Rahul Gandhi will now reach out to farmers in Aligarh in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh with the Congress organising a kisan mahapanchayat there on July 9.

The district administration has given go-ahead to the Congress for organising kisan mahapanchayat at Numaish Maidan in Aligarh, which will be addressed by the party general secretary and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi.

After seeking the permission from the administration, the party state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi is likely to come to Aligarh on Sunday.

The Congress leader, Vijender Singh said, “The party was seeking permission to hold mahapanchayat at one of the maidans from the list which included Jikrapur, Tupple, Jattari, Khair and Numaish maidan. The district administration has given us green signal to hold the meeting at the Numaish maidan.”

“The mahapanchayat is not against any political party. The purpose of this panchayat is to hear farmers’ problems related with land acquisition bill, so that we can put forward the issues and their stand in the monsoon session of Parliament,” he added.

The Congress had also submitted an application seeking permission to hold the rally at Ramlila Ground in Noida. The Gautam Buddha Nagar district administration approved the proposal of Ramlila Ground but Congress high command has decided to hold mahapanchayat in Aligarh.
