Jalandhar: Amidst the mounting complaints about the food supplied in the Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains, the Railway administration is now mulling over changing the menu. It is all set to invite renowned companies involved in catering business to supply food in these trains.

If everything goes as per plan, then soon after the Budget session, the new menu will be introduced in the respective trains.

The passengers had lodged several complaints regarding the food. They had even complained of cockroaches being found in the food served in these trains.

Till now the passengers of the Shatabdi Express had to pay Rs 88 for breakfast, Rs 108 for dinner. And in case of first class, the breakfast is for Rs 158 and dinner for Rs 198. Similarly, in case of Rajdhani the lunch and dinner is for Rs 125.

According to new plan, the menu of the catering companies like Haldirams, Bikaner and Cosmos have been sought. Although the catering for these trains is presently done by private companies, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) used to monitor the quality of the food.

Special DRM Vishwesh Chaubey said, “Since the matter is related to headquarters, we need to wait for a final nod from them.”
