Amritsar: Despite running into losses due to lack of passengers opting for Duronto Express train running between Chandigarh and Amritsar, the Railway authorities are not willing to take up the demand of increasing the number of stoppages on the route.

It is interesting to note that the Chandigarh-Amritsar Duronto is running without sufficient number of passengers resulting into losses running into lakhs of rupees in every trip.

The locals in the state have demanded the railway authorities to make stations like Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana and Mohali as permanent stoppages in order to increase the ridership.

It is also a fact that only 300 passengers are traveling in these trains which has a capacity of ferrying more than 1200 passengers at one go.

The Railways has not been able to attract passengers despite special facilities like option of purchasing reservation tickets directly from booking counters.

If the sources in the department are to be believed, Railway is suffering losses to the tune of Rs 4 Lakh per day.
