Meetings of Railway Board officials with the Safety Directorate were held on June 4 and 5 to discuss the recommendations made by Kakodkar Committee.

The Ministry of Railways had formed a High Level Safety Review Committee-headed by Anil Kakodkar to review the safety of the Indian Railways and recommend improvements. ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan was made advisor to the panel.

The next meeting will take place on June 9.

The committee, which made a total of 106 recommendations, submitted its report in 2013 and made various recommendations for improving safety which needed an outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore over a period of five years.

It is expected that the detailed examination of Kakodkar Committee’s recommendations will be completed in this month.
