New Delhi: The Railways Ministry’s decision to allow the Container Corporation (CONCOR) and private container companies to ferry the bulk and loose consignment and levy less haulage charge are causing a huge loss to it, said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Report.

According to the CAG Report introduced in the Parliament, the Railways had allocated the selected terminals to the CONCOR and private companies to ferry the loose consignment. Later they would be allowed to ferry the bulk consignment too.

The CAG Report says the Railways has handed over the ferrying of consignment to the CONCOR and private companies but did not make required arrangement of its monitoring process.

“The Railways incurred a loss of Rs 1,175 crore in 2009-10 due to the mismanagement. Therefore, the Ministry should reconsider its policy,” the CAG Report added.
