"We first increased the number from six to nine. The middle class and poor will benefit if the number is now taken to 12," he said, speaking at a function to unveil the bust of Babasaheb Ambedkar in suburban Kandivli here.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who unveiled the bust, said that he will convey the message to the Cabinet but cannot comment as the final decision is yet to be taken.

Nirupam also demanded that the government should regularize pre-2005 slums in the city.
