New Delhi: The areas under New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) will see a rise in parking rates from 1 August. In the meantime, the terms and conditions set by Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) which include ‘D-marking’ on the parking site, machine slips, etc will be brought into action.

According to NDMC spokesperson, A K Mishra, this new system will bring to an end the arbitrariness of the contractors operating the parking lots till now. And if they continue with their old ways, now strict action would be taken against them. The decision regarding parking fee hike was taken on April 10 at the Municipal Council’s meeting.  The new rates were to come into effect from July 1.

After fulfilling the terms and conditions, EPCA will decide on the allotment of parking sites to contractors. July 31 has been set as the deadline for allotment of parking sites. The NDMC had earlier set three parking categories, but now there will be only two categories, A and B.

The parking area outside Rail Museum, India Gate and government offices will be categorized as B-category parking and the rest of the parking areas will be of A-category. In A-category parking, vehicles will be charged Rs. 20 for one hour. After an hour, the rate will keep increasing and may go upto Rs. 100.
