Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has sought CBI probe into Gopalgarh riot in Bharatpur district, which happened after two communities got violent over land row.

The state government has written a letter to CBI chief in this regard, besides removing Bharatpur Collector K Kunal and Superintendent of Police Hinglaj Dan for delaying the probe. Barmer Collector Gaurav Goyal and Chittorgarh SP Vikas Kumar have replaced them.

A Meo Muslim community held mahapanchayat on Saturday at Alwar to discuss the matter. While holding police officers responsible for the turmoil, the community members demanded suspension of Om Prakash, SSP, and registration of case against DM, SP and other officials involved in the firing.

Dausa MP Kirori Lal Meena and Vishvendra Singh of Bharatpur royal family attended the mahapanchayat.

The community has also announced to hold a panchayat in Haryana if their demands were not met.

The three-day long curfew was relaxed in the affected areas. The government also announced jobs for the kin of those who were killed in the riot. The decision was taken in a meeting headed by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on late Friday night.

The riots claimed eight lives and left 23 injured. The case has been registered against 40 people from both the communities.
