Jaipur: In an effort to ensure that midwife nurse Bhanwari Devi’s children are taken care of, the Rajasthan government on Sunday announced a relief package to her family.

The state government has announced an economic aide of Rs four lakh cash to her children. Her eldest son Sahil (18) has been appointed as a junior clerk. Apart from this, Ashok Gehlot government would also deposit Rs two lakh each in the bank in the name of her daughters Suhani (7) and Ashwini (15). The government would also contribute Rs 50,000 during the time of their marriage.

While Suhani is mired in a paternity dispute, Sahil quit studies and started staying at his home. Ashwini has been thrown out of school and their grandmother Pooni Devi (70) survives on old age pension.

The auxiliary nurse, Bhanwari Devi went missing since September 1. She allegedly featured in a video in a compromising position with sacked Water Resource Minister Mahipal Maderna. He was arrested on December 2. Another Congress MLA from Luni, Malkhan Singh Bishnoi was arrested on December 19 in the same case.

The CBI also arrested Bhanwari’s husband, Amarchand, on charges of abetting the crime and accepting money for the same. With Amarchand’s arrest, it has become difficult for their children to survive. Sahil has been trying to talk to the CBI and lawyers to get his father out of the jail.

The CBI had urged the state government to help the children finish their studies and lead a normal life. In a novel gesture, the Rajasthan Police and the Maharashtra Police along with the CBI have contributed Rs 1.5 lakh to help Bhanwari’s family.

Considering this a special case, the government will give Rs 675 monthly to their guardian under the ‘Palahar Yojna’. Each child of the slain nurse would also get Rs two thousand annually.
