Bhimnagar (UP):  Rajesh Yadav, who was given a ticket by the BJP to contest from Gunnaur Assembly seat here, has said that he is not interested in contesting the upcoming polls as a saffron party nominee and instead will contest the elections as the Janata Dal (united) candidate.

Yadav was the Samajwadi Party MLA from the seat in 1993.

"I want to contest as a JD (U) candidate but meanwhile, BJP announced me as its candidate," Yadav said, adding that he is humbly returning the ticket to the BJP and is campaigning in the area as the JD(U) candidate.

Though the BJP and Janata Dal (United) are allies at the national level, in Uttar Pradesh they appear to be going separate ways in the coming polls.

Polling for the Gunnaur Assembly seat is scheduled for the first phase on February 4.
