Rajnikanth’s upcoming film Kochadaiyaan release may be pushed further due to the upcoming elections. The film, which also stars Deepika Padukone, was slated to hit the marquee on April 11 along with Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Bhootnath Returns’.

Coincidently, April 11 happens to be in the middle of India’s general elections, which is stretched from April 7 to May 12. As the upcoming polls may cast a shadow on the fate of movies, makers, distributors and exhibitors could be wary of releasing big budget movies, whose box office performance is of life-and-death importance.

Tamil Nadu goes to the polls on April 24. Kochadaiyaan is a directorial debut of Rajni’s daughter Soundarya and is written by K Ravi Kumar.

Soundarya said, “Kochadaiiyaan would offer an opportunity for viewers to see the star perform the Rudra Thandavam (a form of dance) with six-pack abs.”

She added, “There was also a plan to dub it in Japanese for audiences there to watch their Dancing Maharaja – as Rajnikanth is fondly addressed in the county after his ‘Muthu’ became a hit.”

The film will not only be released in Tamil but also in Hindi, Telugu, Japanese, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi and English.
