New Delhi: Former BJP president Rajnath Singh has raised concerns over the growing demands of separate statehood in the country.

While speaking at the Jagran Forum about the division of Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh said that there is developmental imbalance at the regional level and hence demand for separate statehood is growing day by day. However, he was quick to caution that decisions in this regard should not be taken in haste and vouched for setting up of State Reconstruction Commission.

He further said that the promise of carving out states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand has been fulfilled by the BJP. Backing the need for setting up of a high court bench in western Uttar Pradesh, Rajnath Singh said that the BJP during its regime had sent a proposal to the Centre which is yet to make any decision in this regard.

On being asked whether NDA will join hands with TMC after BJP was seen being a part of Mamata Banerjee’s protest in Bengal, Rajnath Singh said its upto the TMC chief to decide.
