New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was on Thursday adjourned for the day amid uproar on the issue of FDI in retail and SC/ST quota in promotions in government jobs.

Opposition MPs were on their feet and shouting slogans as soon as question hour was taken up at 11 a.m. Despite requests from the chairman Hamid Ansari to let proceedings continue, the ruckus continued. He then adjourned the house till 12 noon and later for the day.

Opposition members are demanding a debate on the government's move to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.
