Patna: The Election Commission announced to hold bye-election on 14 February to fill the vacant seat of Rajya Sabha from Bihar as former JD (U) MP Upendra Kushwaha had resigned from the Upper House on January 4.

The notification would be issued on January 28th and candidates could file nomination from January 28 to February 4. The last date for the withdrawal of the candidatures is February 7.

The bye-election would start at 9 am on 14 February. The elected MP’s tenure will end on July 7, 2016.

Kushwaha resigned from the party after attacking Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his alleged "autocratic" style of functioning and later also resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
