Describing him as a renowned legal luminary, Ansari said Iyer began his career as an advocate and rose to become a judge of Supreme Court from 1973 to 1980.
He was a social reformer whose judgments upheld human rights and rule of law, he said.
"In passing away of V R Krishna Iyer, the country has lost a legal luminary and a dedicated social reformer," he said.
Members thereafter stood in silence as mark of respect to the departed soul.
