New Delhi: In a sensational claim, Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Birender Singh has said that one can buy seats in the Upper House of Parliament for Rs 100 crore. The statement of the senior leader from Haryana immediately drew flak from Opposition with the BJP slamming the ruling party for taking the politics to ‘such a low level.’

Speaking at an event Birender Singh said, "Once, someone had told me that Rs 100 crore is required to get a Rajya Sabha berth. But he said that he got it for Rs 80 crore and saved Rs 20 crore. Now, will people who are willing to invest Rs 100 crore, ever think of the poor country?"
Reacting to the Congress MP’s claims, BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Prakash Javadekar said that Singh must be giving his own example. "Congress is in the habit of cutting out deals...Congress has brought politics in the country to such a low level," Javadekar said.
Singh was the AICC general secretary in-charge of Himachal Pradesh but was dropped in the recent reshuffle in AICC. There were strong speculations that he could be made a minister in the recent reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers.
Besides, Birender Singh is also a known detractor of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
