New Delhi:Suspended BJP leader Ram Jethmalani on Tuesday endorsed the senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha’s views backing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as NDA’s Prime Ministerial candidate for next general elections.

Speaking to media persons in the national capital, Jethmalani said that Narendra Modi is the best candidate for Prime Minister’s post.

"Narendra bhai is the best prime minister of the country, nothing has happened to change my mind. Yashwant Singh has supported my view, and I am very happy," Jethmalani said.

Jethmalani also said that Modi was completely secular."I believe he (Modi) is impeccably secular," he said, adding that those calling him communal did not understand secularism.

He said that if the ally Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chose to walk out of the National Democratic alliance (NDA) following this, then Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should let them.

Earlier on Monday, former External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha had endorsed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate for 2014 general elections.

Sinha is the first senior BJP leader to openly pitch for declaring Modi as PM candidate although the party and the leaders have been evasive on this issue.

When asked about the possibility of JD(U) quitting the NDA if Modi is declared as PM candidate by BJP, Sinha said, "If any party goes, a number of parties will come.... JD(U) is absolutely free.”

"It is another party, it is an ally. If they take a position, they should take it only after careful consideration."
Meanwhile, the Janta Dal (United) has demanded immediate NDA meet to discuss the matter.
