"I am highly obliged that the BJP has considered me worthy to join it. I will work as a grassroots worker for the party," he said.

He also lauded NDA’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, and said the nation has high hopes from him.

“Narendra Modi has done tremendous work for Muslims in Gujarat,” he said.

“The nation wants Narendra Modi as Prime Minister. Modi will give a new direction to the nation,” he added.

He also described Modi as the 'man defining the next era of our nation'.

Taking a jibe at Lalu Prasad Yadav, he said, the RJD supremo is indulging in votebank politics.

Yadav, a former close aide of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, had met Rajnath Singh and party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad at the Delhi airport on Tuesday, giving rise to speculation that he would soon join the saffron party.

Ram Kripal Yadav resigned from all party posts of the RJD after Lalu Prasad ignored his claim over Pataliputra ticket to field his daughter Misa Bharti from there.

“RJD is moving away from its founding principal. Lalu gave precedence to his family over party and cadres,” he said.

"I have never been a leader. I have for the 35 years worked as worker. I worked with Lalu to build RJD. The worker in Bihar are feeling suffocated as family is being given importance in Bihar politics. I felt social justice should be taken forward and not family justice," Yadav said after joining the BJP.

He was denied RJD ticket to contest from Pataliputra Lok Sabha seat against Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Misa.

He was one of the closest confidants of Lalu and had formed the RJD along with him in 1997.
