Patna: LJP supremo Ramvilas Paswan urged the Congress to strengthen secular forces supporting it to return to power at the Centre for the third successive term.
"The next general elections will be contested between the secular forces and the is imperative that Congress seeks to strengthen secular forces to form the next government at the Centre," he told reporters.
The Congress knows all too well that it alone cannot win required number of seats to form the next government at the Centre and under the circumstances it must try to take along other secular parties, Paswan said.
In a veiled warning to the Congress, the LJP president said that he could not visualise a scenario under which the former could get a third term at the Centre without cobbling up support of most of the secular parties in the country.
Paswan also sought to scotch doubts about continuation of the alliance between RJD and LJP in Bihar on long term basis and said his party would back the RJD candidate in the bypoll to Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat that had fallen vacant following death of the RJD MP Umashankar Singh recently. The date of the by-election was yet to be announced.
