Lucknow: Hoping for better coordination between the Centre and the new UP government, Union Rural Development minister Jairam Ramesh on Saturday said a meeting with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would be held every two months to discuss ways for giving a momentum to various works.

"We have decided that I and Akhilesh would meet at least once every two months to discuss ways and means to give momentum to the various development works," Ramesh told reporters after his meeting with the CM here.

Accusing the previous Mayawati government of being lax towards development in the state, Ramesh hoped there would be better coordination with the new chief minister who also has a "good understanding about environment".

"I have been rural development minister since the past 10 months...there are scams in UP which are also being probed but neither the then chief minister (Mayawati) nor any of her ministers found the need to meet me...Ministers of other states used to come and meet but unfortunately we could not work with the UP government," Ramesh said.
