Ghaziabad: After the Supreme Court’s order to prosecute Delhi police officials involved in the midnight crackdown on Ramdev’s stir, the BJP has demanded the resignation of Home Minister P Chidambaram for the mess during a Satyagraha staged by Baba Ramdev and his supporters against the Centre over blackmoney in June last year.

“The Home Minister must give his resignation on Ramlila incident in which fundamental rights of innocent people were violated,” BJP national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said while interacting with the media at a function to inaugurate a party office in western Uttar Pradesh.

Calling the death of Rajbala, a protester, a sad incident,  the BJP leader said, “The death was really tragic and cannot be compensated by any means. The Home Minister’s direction of lathi charge on innocent people at midnight led to the tragic incident. Therefore, the government must file a case against Chidambaram.”

Talking on the lines of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Naqvi said that the rival parties (BSP, Congress and SP) have always misled the people by making fake promises during their tenure.

“They will not be voted to power in UP. They have to pay for their mistakes, misgovernance and unabated corruption,” said the leader.

Taking a dig at Congress’s remark about the President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh after the polls, Naqvi said, “Through this statement, the Congress has only showed it's inefficiency and fears over the poll results. They see failure after the results are out and that is why they are making such statements."
