With the announcement of senior Bahujan Samaj Party leader Ramveer Upadhyay’s candidature from Sikandara Rao Assembly seat in Hathras district, the local politics took a new turn. Given caste equation going against him, sitting Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Yashpal Singh Chauhan switched over to the Samajwadi Party to ensure his victory on the seat.

After the delimitation, three-time Hathras MLA Ramveer Upadhyay chose to contest from new assembly segment Sikandara Rao from where he is also facing a tough battle from SP nominee Chauhan. Omprakash Baghel is contesting as the Congress-RLD candidate and has made the fight three-cornered.

In 2007, Upadhyay had defeated Devendra Agarwal of the RLD by a margin of about 15,000 votes. This time, the RLD-Congress combine has made the election battle difficult for him. The BJP fielded Narendra Singh from here.

Riding on the development planks, Upadhyay is assured of his victory from the seat. After the delimitation, Upadhyay got completed several power projects in the constituency.

It is interesting to see who will be lucky to enter the assembly this time in changed scenario.
