Ranchi: A meeting of the Ranchi University financial committee, which was chaired by the vice-chancellor, sought Rs 97.72 crore as aid from the University Grants Commission (UGC) for educational and infrastructural development under the 12th five-year plan.

During the meeting, it was decided that construction works would be done over 18.93 acres of land.

The university has also sought UGC’s permission for 50 new appointments including 21 lecturers and 24 computer operators for several new courses to be introduced in the upcoming session.

Recently, the academic council of Ranchi University has decided to introduce new courses including M.Phill and UG course in Hotel Management and Catering Technology. The university will also start one-year certificate course in Hotel Management from the upcoming session. A new PG course of Agriculture Business Management will also be introduced.

Apart from this, a new engineering college will be set up in the engineering faculty of the university.

A new course of MSc in computer science will also be introduced in the department of Mathematics while two new PG diploma courses of functional Arabic and Persian will be introduced in the department of Urdu.
