New Delhi: The Rangarajan Committee, after weighing all the aspects, is expected to submit its report on de-controlling the Sugar Industry in the coming six months time. This has been said by the Union Minister of State for Food KV Thomas.

Expressing serious concerns in the Rajya Sabha on Monday over the pathetic condition of the sugar-cane farmers, Thomas said, “No time frame was fixed for the Committee during its formation but now it has been fixed for six months. C Rangarajan is the Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council and the committee was formed on January 20, 2012.”

Replying to a questions in the Upper House, the minister said that previous Mahajan Committee, Kelkar Committee and Thorat Committee were formed to look into the problems of the Sugar Industry and the sugar-cane farmers.

The Kelkar and the Thorat committees had also submitted their reports on different aspects of the industry and had made many recommendations. But the ambit of the Rangarajan Committee is very comprehensive and it will look into the issues like Sugar Mills, farmers, import and export of sugar and many others.
