Nagpur: Half centuries by opener SS Das and Shalabh Srivastava helped hosts Vidarbha post 225 runs for the loss of five wickets against Hyderabad on the first day of the Ranji Trophy Plate division semi-final match on Thursday.
    
Electing to bat first, the hosts lost two quick wickets as opener A Chore (2) and one-down R Jangid (5) before the end of the ninth over with just 26 runs on the board.
    
However, Das 64 (157b, 4x12) and Srivastava 83 (165b, 4x14) added 110 runs for the third wicket to pull the hosts out of trouble.
    
Srivastava played some well timed drives in front of the wicket, while Das held the innings together with some delicate cuts as the hosts went to lnuch with the score reading 100-2.
    
Das perished early in the post lunch session as he was caught at short-leg off left-armer Syed Quadri.
    
Veteran Hemant Badani then added 53-runs for the fourth wicket.
    
Shrivastava played some excellent drives on either side of the wicket during the afternoon session.
    
However, around tea break the scoring slowed down and on resumption Vidarbha lost the pair in quick succession.
    
Shrivastava was dismissed first caught off left-arm-spinner Lalit Mohan and was soon followed by Badani (40), bowled by K Naidu, who the most successful bowler of the day with figures of 2-47.
    
Despite lacking variety in their bowling attack, the visitors were fortunate to restrict the home side to a meager score for the day.
    
Vidarbha skipper Sairaj Bahatule (11) and Ranjit Paradkar (13) were at the crease when stumps were drawn for the day.
