Bhubaneswar (Agencies): Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) is eager to acquire Neelanchal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) in Orissa saying it had both domain knowledge and superior technology.

"We are very keen to acquire NINL which has its plant in Kalinga Nagar area as the government decided to give it to a strategic partner," RINL's Chairman-cum-Managing Director PK Bishnoi told reporters here.

Bishnoi added that discussions were in progress and a decision was required to be taken by Orissa Government and the Centre.
As NINL is now primarily operated by MMTC, which has 49 per cent stake in the steel unit, the Centre and Orissa Governments would together choose the strategic partner.

While Orissa Government has 26 per cent stake in NINL, the remaining 25 per cent stake in the steel division is held by different share holders.

According to sources the public sector RINL with its advanced technology appeared to be a strong contender for the bid while a number of private steel units are coming up in Kalinga Nagar and nearby areas.
