Ranchi: The recent appointment of Information and Public Relations Department (IPRD) Director Alok Kumar Gupta has been challenged before the Jharkhand High Court.

Filing a PIL praying removal of Gupta, social activist Durga Oraon argued that the officer allegedly did not meet the qualifications required for the Jharkhand government’s post.

The petition, filed yesterday, claimed that even the state finance department had also raised objections, which were ignored and he was appointed in May this year by Chief Minister Arjun Munda.

Claiming that the post required at least ten years experience in journalism or the person should be an IAS officer, the petition said Gupta met neither requirement and was a deputy manager (personnel) with the Central Coalfields Limited before he took over the charge as Director, IPRD.
