New Delhi: The Trial Court verdict has come as a breather for Home Minister P Chidambaram but more importantly it has proved to be a boon for the Congress.

Soon after the lower court discharged Chidambaram from all allegations, the Congress took the BJP head-on demanding an apology for running a fake campaign against the clean minister.

Notably, the Apex Court’s verdict in the 2G spectrum allocation scam leading to cancellation of 122 licences of several telecom giants had put the UPA in a state of bother as the verdict could have an adverse effect on the party’s prospects in the crucial Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. It could have further deteriorated had Chidambaram been held guilty.

With lower court’s judgement going in favour of the Congress, the party has got an opportunity to prove its innocence. Soon after the verdict was out Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal pinned the entire blame on its partner the DMK and A Raja.

Commenting upon Subramanian Swamy’s reaction over approaching the higher courts, Information & Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said, “It is the victory of the truth. Whosoever want to go anywhere they can go. Truth cannot be changed. We welcome the honourable court’s verdict.”
