New Delhi: The regular visitors and shopkeepers to the famous area of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, would soon get relief from the chaotic and jammed streets as the renovation work at the main route from Red Fort to Fatehpuri is going to start this week.

The renovation work would be flagged off by Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. However, Delhi Mayor has yet to decide when the makeover work will begin.

Popularly known as ‘Delhi-6’, the area has been surrounded by deluge of problems. Traffic chaos can be seen as the major problem of the areas.

Apart from traffic congestion, broken pavements, beggars and pile of garbage lying around road pester businessmen, visitors and tourists.

To resolve these problems, the government had launched a plan many years ago, but it could not be implemented yet.

Sources said that some of the residents have opposed the proposed plan.
