Jammu: In a step motherly treatment to the panchayat representatives in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has denied the adequate security to them inviting huge resentment from the sarpanches. However, the ex-army men, political workers and other prominent persons still enjoy the privilege of security cover in the state.

Citing the reasons behind his decision, Omar said, “Seven out of 10 divisions in Jammu witnessed no terror activities.” But ironically, more people have been given security cover in such districts. The bizarre decision has irked the panchayat representatives.

As a result, sarpanches living under the security threat are preparing for agitation against the government. Sarpanch Anil Sharma said, “It is not good on the part of government to deny us from the security. When security can be provided to ex-army officers and politicians, then why we are deprived of it? ”
