Nearly 3,400 resident doctors in medical college hospitals went on strike on Thursday in protest against an incident of scuffling between residents and attendant of a patient in Kota hospital which took place on Monday night.
A delegation of resident doctors on Friday held a meeting with medical department officials and apprised them of their demand including enhanced security of residents and action against the accused in Kota incident.
"The accused in Kota incident have been arrested and the government has assured us that the procedure to deploy security force would be expedited besides ensuring that senior doctors are present round-the-clock. Therefore, we called off the strike," Dr Rajvendra Chaudhary, President of Jaipur Association of resident doctors said.
Dr Subhash Nepalia, Principal of SMS Medical College, said demands of the resident doctors have been met and the residents have returned to work.
