"Restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under police stations of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, MR Gunj, Safakadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud in Srinagar city today. Restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order in the city," a senior police official told media here.

Separatist leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has called for a 'Solidarity March' in Srinagar to remember those killed in communal clashes in Jammu in 1947. All the separatist leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan and Asiya Andrabi have been placed in preventive detention ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Srinagar tomorrow.

Shops, public transport, businesses and educational institutions remained closed today in the city. Attendance in government offices, banks and post offices was thin because of  non-availability of public transport. All examinations of Kashmir University scheduled for today and tomorrow have been postponed.
