Chandigarh: Officers of the Punjab government undertaking international travel will not be able to freely travel on business class at state expense.

The Punjab government has notified new rules under which only secretary-level officials and above, whose grade pay is Rs 10,000 and above, would be entitled to travel in business or club class of airlines during international travel, a state government spokesman said in Chandigarh on Monday.

Even for this category, the entitlement will be only where the one-way flying time is more than eight hours, he said."All other officers of the state government would be entitled to travel by economy class. Directions in this regard have been issued to all heads of departments, commissioners of divisions and deputy commissioners in the state," the spokesman said, adding that the new rules were in line with austerity measures.
