Dehradun: For government officials planning to settle down post retirement, the road to a dream house and perfect lifestyle heads straight to Dehradun.  A serene ambiance, picturesque surroundings, easy accessibility to basic amenities and peaceful conditions makes Dehradun among the most preferred cities for government officials aiming to settle down after retirement.

The findings have been revealed in a recent survey by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).

Ranked on the parameters like basic amenities, power supply, health facility, proper roads, drainage and sewage, markets, malls and local environment, Chandigarh tops the list of Tier -II cities, followed by Dehradun on the second position and Pune, Udaipur jointly on the third place.

As per the survey, corporate executive and government officials prefer Chandigarh and Dehradun for post-retirement settlement. They also reflected their inclination towards Indore, Jabalpur and Ranchi. Those in Gujarat opted for Surat, while those in Maharashtra went for Aurangabad.

However, the cities that failed to attract the retired government officials included Ghaziabad, Meerut, Faridabad, Noida, Sonipat and Manesar. The cities were criticised for the existing poor law and order situation.

According to secretary general ASSOCHAM, DS Rawat, “Dehradun has emerged as post-retirement paradise owing to the easy availability of civic services and natural ambience. Chandigarh was chosen for apt law and order condition. However, the developed cities closely linked to Delhi were not taken into consideration for poor availability of facilities like power, water and deteriorating law and order situation."
