Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani's diktat allegedly asking KV schools to stop teaching German as third language and instead tutor Sanskrit was "a planned imposition of Sanskrit," PMK chief Ramadoss alleged and wanted the decision revoked.

Accusing the BJP-led Centre for "language and cultural invasion," he pointed to moves like Hindi in social media, Sanskrit week in schools and celebration of Teachers' Day as "Guru Utsav" to substantiate his claim.
"The Centre should give up indulging in language and cultural imposition at a time when a lot of development related work is pending."

Efforts should be taken to restore status quo and allow teaching of German language as before in Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools, he appealed.

PMK has been continuously accusing the BJP of resorting to imposition of Hindi through several avenues.

An initiative of the All India Radio (AIR) to broadcast Hindi content in regional centres in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry kicked up a row recently.
